Tesla is gearing up to release the Performance variant of the new Model 3 Performance according to Tesla Australia's chief engineer, Daniel Ho.
Ho revealed to Carsales.com.au that the new Performance model would arrive in the first half of 2024.
Improvements to the Performance Model
Ho went on to say that the new Performance variant will be "pretty special" suggesting significant improvements. Despite not divulging any specifics, he said Tesla "left a few things on the table," when it released the original Model 3 Performance model in June 2018.
When Tesla revealed the new Model 3 earlier this year, the Performance version was mysterious missing, but several leaks have hinted at various improvements to the upcoming model.
An update to Tesla's owner's manual shows the new Model 3 with a "Ludicrous" badge, although documents in Europe reveal that the vehicle will keep its dual motor set up.
Focusing on Driving Enthusiasts
The original Performance model was groundbreaking in many ways, but there was still untapped potential. Despite binned motors, upgraded brakes and a small spoiler, there was little difference in hardware betwen the AWD and Performance variants. The primary focus at that time was ensuring the mainstream Model 3 variants reached volume production and sales figures. With the 2024 model, Tesla appears to want to fully realize this untapped potential and bring forward a vehicle that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of driving enthusiasts.
The new Model 3 is expected to become available in North America in early 2024, and there have been several hints, including photos from Tesla that show the new Model 3 with a front bumper camera . It's possible Tesla may have the Performance version of the new Model 3 available at launch, as higher trim levels are typically more lucrative, but there have been no signs of that yet.
