Some early Model 3 models came equipped with a HomeLink garage door opener similar to many other cars. It was integrated into the car and tied into the GPS system so that it could auto-close or auto-open the garage door when you arrived or left home.
A couple years ago Tesla stopped included the HomeLink module required to open garage doors in the Model 3 and Model Y, but it can still be purchased separately after delivery for $300. This price includes installation at a Tesla service center.
However, with many garage doors now supporting WiFi connections an owner can now open them remotely through their manufacturer's app. Elon Musk has said that Tesla will look into integrating WiFi garage door openers into Tesla vehicles so that owner's will be able to open and close their garage doors through their cars even without the HomeLink module.
If Tesla is able to get garage door manufacturers onboard and integrate this feature, it will likely be even better than HomeLink, as HomeLink usually can only provide an Open/Close command and it does not know the current state of the garage door.
Elon Musk confirmed this in April of this year, although we haven't received an update since then.
