Tip #004 - Charge Port has an Open/Release Button

Model S
Model X

February 16, 2021

Behind the charge port door on newer Model X and Model S cars, opposite the hinge, there is a button you might not have noticed.

  • If you rotate the button it will move in or out to adjust where the charge port door closes so you can have it flush with your car side.
  • If you push it when the charge port door is open and charge cable handle is installed and locked, it will release the cable.
  • No need to push on release button on the charger handle button.
  • If you push on left side of a closed charge port door, it will open the door.
