Deploying electric vehicle charging stations traditionally means weeks of loud trenching, laying conduits, pouring concrete pads, and wiring dispensers one at a time, and that’s if you can find a suitable location. Tesla has spent years replacing that slow, piecemeal construction process with factory pre-fabrication, and its latest innovation takes modular deployment to an entirely new level.
The official @TeslaCharging account took to X to unveil the new Accordion Supercharger, which makes it possible to build a station even when Tesla can’t place stalls behind a curb. The solution also allows for 16 stalls per truck shipment and makes installation faster and 20% cheaper.
“Our goal is to pre-assemble all Superchargers in a factory,” Tesla said. “If we can't install Superchargers behind a curb, we now have a pre-assembled solution for Superchargers between parking spaces”
Tesla also shared a promo video of the new Accordion Supercharger that showed a heavy-duty telehandler crane lifting a bundled charging assembly out of a curtain-side delivery truck. The pre-assembled rig features a central V4 Supercharger cabinet flanked by pre-wired V4 posts resting on pre-cast base slabs that can be extended out to cover a full parking lot.
The design builds directly on the pre-fabricated folding Supercharger units Tesla launched earlier this year. While folding units fold downward along a single curb edge, the new Accordion architecture addresses parking layouts where dispensers must sit directly between rows of parking stalls.
Once lowered into an excavated trench, the assembly expands outward like an accordion. Flexible, heavy-gauge conduits snake out from the central cabinet to feed paired dispenser islands spaced out across adjacent stalls.
After dropping the modular skeleton into place, crews simply backfill the trench, lay interlocking paver stones on top, and connect the high-voltage utility lines. Because the wiring, internal cooling lines, and base pads are pre-assembled in factory conditions, the site achieves instant commissioning without extensive on-site electrical diagnostics. Fitting 16 stalls per flatbed shipment also slashes shipping costs.
With over 80,000 stalls active worldwide, Tesla already operates the largest DC fast-charging network on the globe. Keeping pace with growing EV sales demands rapid hardware iteration. Beyond public stations, Tesla recently filed plans for a second Robotaxi-only Supercharger in Austin, establishing private charging and cleaning depots for its driverless commercial fleet.
Looking further ahead, Tesla has even more ambitious plans for its high-density Supercharger network. Earlier this year, Tesla trademarked its MEGAPOD program to turn idle Superchargers into distributed compute centers, tapping idle power capacity during off-peak hours.
By cutting installation costs by 20% and eliminating days of manual labor, while also enabling stations in previously incompatible lots, Accordion Superchargers ensure charging stalls can be dropped into complex parking lots almost overnight.

Getting into a pre-warmed cabin with toasty seats is one of the best perks of driving an electric vehicle in colder weather. However, leaving high-draw heating elements running continuously across long road trips can take a toll on heating coils and cabin upholstery over time, not to mention using up more battery. To safeguard hardware and range, Tesla has quietly introduced an automatic timeout for seat heaters.
We discovered the change in Tesla’s updated Model Y owner’s manual, coinciding with the rollout of software update 2026.32. Build 2026.32.3 began making its way across the consumer fleet last week, bringing the undocumented behavior along with it.
Under the Seat Haters part of the manual’s Front and Rear Seats section, Tesla explicitly outlines the new timeout behavior:
“To protect vehicle components, an individual seat heater may automatically turn off after approximately 30 minutes of continuous use. This is normal behavior and does not indicate a problem with your vehicle. If a seat heater turns off unexpectedly, you can turn it back on by adjusting the seat heater setting on the touchscreen.”

If you find your seat cooling off midway through a longer commute, you can simply tap the heating icon on the touchscreen’s bottom climate bar to turn the coil straight back on. You can also turn seat heating on from the Tesla app.
Adding an automatic shutoff helps reduce long-term wear on the resistive heating pads tucked underneath your Tesla’s seats. Seat heaters draw continuous 12-volt power and generate concentrated warmth, which can degrade heating wire insulation or dry out seat materials if forgotten during multi-hour highway cruises.

The change matches how Tesla already manages other thermal and electrical loads across the vehicle. Rear window defrosters — which also activate heated side mirrors — automatically shut off after 15 minutes to save power and protect grid wiring once ice clears.
Similarly, wiper blade defrost heaters shut down after 30 minutes, while interior dome lights shut off after about 60 minutes if left turned on accidentally. Putting seat heaters on a 30-minute timer brings seating elements into that same protective routine.
The new timeout is part of a steady stream of minor updates rolling out across the fleet. In addition to this new feature, the 2026.32 software branch also introduces a redesigned wheel and tire configuration menu alongside Apple Music library search. In addition, update 2026.32 quietly added a built-in ad blocker to the native web browser.
Tesla’s late-summer and fall software drops tend to focus on smaller features and bug fixes. Around this time of year, Tesla starts hoarding major new features for the annual holiday update that goes out before the end of the year, making practical improvements like seat heater preservation a welcome interim addition.
