History has a fun way of repeating itself in the Tesla universe. Nearly a decade ago, Tesla shocked the automotive world by rolling a red next-generation Roadster prototype out of the back of a Semi trailer during the commercial truck’s reveal. On Thursday evening, Tesla delivered a playful nod to that exact moment.
Closing out its Semi Rollout presentation in Nevada with an unexpected “one more thing” moment, Tesla dropped a fresh teaser for its upcoming sports car. The clip opens on cargo trailer doors swinging wide open in the dark, briefly illuminating a sleek, glowing horizontal light bar spanning the nose of an aggressive vehicle silhouette.

The Front Light Bar and New Design DNA
The teaser indicates that the production-spec Roadster is getting a redesigned front fascia compared to the concept shown in late 2017. Tesla’s original prototype, as seen in the video below, featured standalone curved projector headlamps that closely resembled the front cluster on the Model 3 refresh.
This new clip shows off a continuous, blade-like LED light bar stretching clean across the front hood like on the Model Y and Cybertruck. In current styling, Tesla typically places primary projector headlights beneath the front light bar (as seen on Cybertruck and the refreshed Model Y) or packages them into the light strip like on the Cybercab. Adopting an edge-to-edge light bar brings Tesla’s halo vehicle right in line with the design language shared by the majority of its modern lineup.
Paired with Tesla’s previous teaser, it’s becoming clear that the Roadster 2.0 design has moved well beyond the curvy show car from 2017. The previous teaser featured the vehicle’s rear, revealing a more angular backside with a high-mounted aero wing and a wide taillight bar, not to mention what looked like the SpaceX-made cold-gas thrusters Elon Musk has been teasing for so long.
While the new Roadster will likely retain the general proportions of a low-slung, mid-engine supercar shape, it looks like the body panels are adopting sharper, geometric creases that borrow from Tesla’s established “Cyber” aesthetic. One Week Until Waco
The surprise teaser lands at the perfect moment. Tesla is officially set to reveal the next-generation Roadster on October 1 in Waco, Texas, giving fans and reservation holders their first comprehensive look at the finished design.
Tesla has been hyping up the upcoming reveal for a long time now, with Musk emphasizing it will be “unforgettable.” Tesla recently reopened Roadster reservations globally to let serious buyers lock in $50,000 spots in line. What’s more, Tesla and SpaceX have even closed a chunk of Texas airspace over the latter’s McGregor test site through October 2 — potentially for pre-event testing or live thruster demonstrations on the stage.
