As Tesla scales its autonomous ride-hailing network across the U.S., it appears ready to weave another piece of Elon Musk’s broader corporate empire into the passenger experience. Riders hailing an autonomous Robotaxi may soon have the option to settle their trip fare directly through X Money.
The upcoming integration was uncovered by @Tesla_App_iOS, an account on X that tracks changes across the Robotaxi and Tesla apps on mobile. Their decompile of the latest Robotaxi app update, version 26.8.2, indicated that X Money support is in the works.
While code strings confirm native integration is actively in development, Tesla has yet to announce an official launch date for when the payment method will go live for the public. That said,
Synergies Across the Musk Ecosystem
The addition of X Money — the digital financial and peer-to-peer payment platform built into X — comes right as Tesla expands its autonomous commercial fleet. Earlier this month, Tesla officially launched the Cybercab on its Robotaxi service in Austin, offering public passenger trips with cheaper per-mile fares than both traditional rideshare services and its own Model Y robotaxis.
As passenger volume grows, adding more payment channels beyond traditional credit cards makes practical sense. Linking X Money into Tesla’s backend gives riders an effortless way to pay using existing social wallet balances or connected bank accounts.
Beyond payment sheets, the standalone ride-hailing client continues to test features that could soon reshape the consumer Tesla ecosystem. As we previously covered, the Robotaxi app has a bunch of exclusive vehicle controls — such as remote air vent direction controls and seat adjustments — that we expect are expected to eventually migrate to the standard Tesla app for retail owners.
Where Robotaxi Service Operates Today
Tesla is laying additional payment groundwork as it continues to expand commercial Robotaxi deployment across multiple hubs. Today, Tesla operates ride-hailing services in seven active metropolitan markets:
Austin: A mixed fleet featuring unsupervised Cybercab and Model Y vehicles.
Bay Area: Model Y vehicles operating with in-vehicle safety monitors.
Dallas: Unsupervised Model Y fleet.
Houston: Unsupervised Model Y fleet.
Miami: Unsupervised Model Y fleet.
Orlando: Unsupervised Model Y fleet.
Tampa: Unsupervised Model Y fleet.
Tesla VP Ashok Elluswamy said earlier this month that Robotaxis could get FSD v15 next month, enabling 24/7 rides in all active markets. The fleet currently has set operating hours. FSD v15, which will bring a major architectural upgrade to 10 billion parameters, is also expected to supercharge Tesla’s Robotaxi expansion across the U.S.
With driverless rides expanding across Texas and Florida and new markets on the horizon, offering native payment rails like X Money brings Tesla one step closer to a frictionless, end-to-end autonomous mobility network.
