Tesla has started rolling out its latest software update, version 2026.8, and while it brings some headline features like Comfort Braking for the refreshed Model Y, a handy undocumented change has also been discovered. For the first time, Tesla is allowing owners to see exactly which driver profile is currently active in their vehicle directly from the Tesla app.

The Tesla app will now show you which Tesla driver profile is selected in the vehicle under Security & Drivers. This simple addition provides a new layer of transparency for multi-driver households, allowing you to know who is behind the wheel at a glance.
How the New Feature Works
The update allows you to view the active driver profile in real time. If the vehicle is currently being driven, the app displays the name of the profile in use. When the car is parked and asleep, it will show the profile of the person who last used the vehicle.
This is particularly useful for families or businesses sharing a car. While anyone can technically switch to a different profile unless it is protected by a PIN, this new feature usually gives you a very accurate idea of who is out with the car.

This new visibility in the app isn't just about "spying" on your spouse; it’s about convenience. If you are about to head out and notice the previous driver left their profile active, you already know the seat will be in their position before you even open the door. It also helps verify that a restricted profile is used when it should be.
