With Tesla software update 2025.32, Tesla is introducing a new feature called Low Power Mode. The feature can reduce energy consumed while the vehicle is parked by turning off various features. The feature makes managing your vehicle’s energy consumption easier, especially when parking for long periods.
This new vacation mode is a direct solution to the long-standing issue of vampire drain.
The feature, which was first discovered in our decompile of the Tesla app, is now a reality, with a thoughtful and flexible set of controls.

How to Use Low Power Mode
Tesla has provided owners with two convenient ways to manage the new feature, allowing for both manual and automatic control.
First, there is a simple toggle to manually turn Low Power Mode on or off, which is available in both the vehicle and through the Tesla app. In the vehicle, navigate to Controls > Charging > Low Power Mode. Alternatively, in the Tesla app, you can turn it on by going to Controls > Low Power Mode or by adding Low Power Mode to the list of Quick Actions.
This easy accessibility makes it perfect for whether you’re just parking at the airport or if you’re halfway around the world and need to save energy.
You can also set a specific battery percentage for Low Power Mode to activate automatically. This allows you to set a reserve battery level, giving you more control over how long these power-consuming features stay on.
The default value is set to activate Low Power Mode once your vehicle reaches 20%, and it can currently be changed between 10% and 20%. Unfortunately, this means that while you can adjust settings to keep features like Sentry Mode on longer, it does not allow you to set a higher value, which would prioritize range.
What Does Low Power Mode Do?
The primary way Low Power Mode saves energy is by disabling the vehicle’s most power-hungry features while the vehicle is parked. Sentry Mode and other similar features can consume about 24 miles of range over the course of a day. Low Power Mode saves energy by turning off these features while parked:

Low Power Mode makes it much easier to set your vehicle up for longer-term parking, such as going on vacation. Low Power Mode makes it easy to turn them all off with one tap. It even turns off any scheduled preconditioning you may have set up, which is an easy one to miss.
It’s important to note that Low Power Mode isn’t a complete vehicle shutdown. The vehicle remains connected and accessible through the Tesla app, so the vehicle will still use a small amount of energy for these standby functions, as well as managing the battery temperature.
Exceptions
Tesla mentions that if you’re charging, then Sentry Mode and Accessory Power will remain on. Similarly, Keep Climate On and Camp Mode will also remain on, but only while Supercharging.
Not surprisingly, Dog Mode is not included in this list, which means that if you have Dog Mode enabled, it will not be turned off when the vehicle reaches your chosen battery state of charge and it will also not be disabled if you turn on Low Power Mode remotely.
Overrides
Crucially, you still remain in control. Tesla has incorporated overrides, allowing you to always have the final say on which features are enabled. If you attempt to enable a restricted feature while Low Power Mode is active, the system will prompt you for confirmation. For example, you can enable Low Power Mode, but still choose to keep Sentry Mode activated.
The vehicle or app will confirm that you want to enable the feature by stating: “Low Power Mode is on, and enabling Sentry Mode will consume energy. Continue?”
The introduction of Low Power Mode is a great addition, providing owners with a quick way to disable power-consuming features in their vehicle.
