Tesla recently started releasing the update 2021.44. This update introduces new features such as improved driver profiles, the ability to only unlock the driver's door in Model 3 and Model Y cars, and more.
However, there's one new feature that has now been uncovered.
In update 2021.44.5 Tesla added a new innovative feature, the ability to detect uneven tire wear.
Several users are now reporting that their car is displaying a warning about their tires needing to be inspected.
The message on the screen will read “Uneven tire wear - Rear tire tread depth too low. Schedule service for tire inspection and rotation.”
It's not clear exactly how Tesla is detecting uneven tire wear or low tread depth, but we speculate that Tesla is comparing how fast the wheels are spinning.
If two wheels on the same axle are at similar tire pressures and one wheel is spinning faster than the other then their Tesla knows that the diameter of the tire must be different.
Although there could be some false positives, this is a welcome new feature that increases the safety of your car by alerting you of a potential issue.
