Tesla users on iOS have enjoyed Live Activities for a while now, giving them real-time updates for Supercharging and Robotaxi rides directly on their lock screens. Android users have been left waiting for a similar experience, but a recent look under the hood of the Tesla mobile app suggests that parity is finally on the horizon.
Code Drops Clues
In our recent decompile of version 4.58.0 of the Tesla app, which started rolling out this week, we spotted strings and references pertaining to Live Activities-style real-time charging notifications for Android. On Google's platform, this feature is known as Live Updates and debuted with Android 16 last year.
The backend code contains several keys and values that match up perfectly with what iOS users already see. Specifically, the app update includes the following strings:
android_native_charging_notif_channel_desc
android_native_charging_notif_charge_level_distance
android_native_charging_notif_fee_estimated
android_native_charging_notif_trip_ready_to_continue_trip
These phrases are translated to the following in the app:
Live updates while your vehicle is charging
Charge: %1$d %2$s
Estimated: %1$s
Ready to continue trip
These lines show that Tesla is preparing a dedicated notification channel for ongoing charging status on Android. Instead of pulling down the notification shade or opening the Tesla app to check your battery percentage, a glance at the lock screen or status bar will tell you exactly how much range you have, how much longer for a full charge, and what your estimated Supercharger fees look like.
Expanding Features Beyond iOS
Tesla introduced Live Activities on iOS in May 2025, allowing owners to track Supercharging progress dynamically. On Apple devices, the feature is also used when you order a ride in the Robotaxi app. With Tesla finally launching its Robotaxi app for Android earlier this spring, we expect Live Updates on Android to also support ride status when the feature becomes available, giving both ecosystems identical functionality.
This discovery is part of a broader trend of Tesla quietly laying the groundwork for upcoming features in its mobile app. Another recent Tesla app update, version 4.57.5, added backend code for home heat pump control. Much like that climate control feature, these rich, persistent notifications for Android aren’t mentioned in Tesla's official release notes.
Live Updates for Android don’t appear to be active in the current Tesla app build. Tesla frequently hides code in production releases weeks or months before flipping the switch on the server side or in a future update. Given that the code for the feature is fully formed, Android users likely won't have to wait much longer to get a more accessible, real-time look at their charging sessions (and more).
