After years of anticipation and lots of recent teases, Tesla has officially announced that FSD (Supervised) is making its way to Australia and New Zealand, marking a huge milestone for Tesla and its customers in the land down under. The announcement, made on X, confirms that both nations are going to be the next major markets to receive FSD.

The FSD Software Update
Unlike North America, FSD isn’t included in the current versions down under and will require a software update before it becomes available. While FSD appears to be completely retrained to support driving on the left side of the road, Tesla is referring to this version of FSD as version 13.2.9, the same version available in North America.
The update that will add FSD in Australia and New Zealand is version 2025.26.7.10.
The release notes, provided by Ryan Cowan, show that they’re almost identical to FSD v13.2.9 in North America, except that the feature is titled “FSD (Supervised) v13.2.9 Down Under,” and the bullet point for Speed Profiles has been removed. In North America, Tesla states, “Speed Profiles on both City Streets and Highways.” Tesla even flipped the release notes image upside down, just to make sure it felt right at home for folks Down Under.
Free FSD Trial
Tesla is trying to increase the take rate for FSD, as can be seen in a tweak to the Design Studio. The vehicle configurator will now show a nearly full-page video of FSD tackling various scenarios once the user scrolls down to the FSD section. In addition to being able to purchase FSD, Tesla will soon offer the ability for buyers to subscribe to or receive a free trial of FSD directly from the purchasing screen.
It seems that Tesla is implementing this free trial first in Australia and New Zealand, as every new Tesla in the region will now come with a 30-day free trial of FSD. This move means that every buyer will now be able to experience FSD from the moment they receive their new vehicle.
The Rollout Plan
The rollout of FSD to thousands of eligible vehicles in Australia and New Zealand will happen in stages. Tesla has confirmed that the owners of newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with AI4 will be the first to receive the software update that enables these new features.
Tesla hasn’t provided a specific date for the first customer cars to be updated, but the announcement made it clear that it should happen very soon, possibly within days.
A wider FSD release to other compatible vehicles, such as the AI4 Model S and Model X, and eventually HW3 vehicles, will follow as Tesla validates FSD’s performance in the area.
Try Before You Buy
The inclusion of a standard 30-day free trial is an important step for Tesla. It’s a fantastic opportunity for new owners to try before they buy, allowing FSD to sell itself. New owners will be able to experience the full suite of FSD features, from navigating complex city streets, roundabouts, and the unique Australian Hook Turn, to automatic lane changes on the highway, all in their own daily commutes or roadtrips.
This strategy is based on the belief that once a driver experiences the convenience and capabilities of FSD, they will be more likely to purchase it. By removing the initial financial barrier and letting FSD speak for itself, Tesla is creating an effective sales funnel for its most important product.
It’s the software equivalent of the long-standing “butts in seats” philosophy for Tesla.
Pricing & Purchase Options
For those who wish to keep the feature after the free trial or for existing owners looking to upgrade, Tesla has outlined two clear paths. FSD (Supervised) will be available for an outright purchase of $10,100 AUD.
Additionally, similar to North America, Tesla will offer a more flexible monthly subscription model, allowing owners to pay on an ongoing basis for the features. Tesla has not yet provided official pricing for FSD in the Australian market, but we expect it to match Canadian pricing at $99 AUD a month.
The official launch of FSD in Australia and New Zealand is a landmark moment for Tesla, finally delivering on a long-held promise and bringing its most advanced software to an important and enthusiastic market.
