Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is now a bigger part of the buying decision than it has ever been. According to Tesla’s Q3 2026 earnings report, more than 75% of new Teslas delivered in North America during the quarter were bundled with FSD, and active FSD subscriptions reached a record 1.74 million. The numbers arrived alongside $28.05 billion in quarterly revenue and $5.49 billion in gross profit.
FSD Attach Rate Jumps Nearly 20% in One Quarter
More than 75% of new Teslas delivered in North America now include FSD (Supervised), whether the buyer purchased it or subscribed. In Q2, that number was 55%, so Tesla gained nearly 20 percentage points in a single quarter (via @DevinOlsenn).
Tesla also said that FSD is driving demand in markets where it’s available, and that it’s working with regulators to get it approved elsewhere. Olsen’s summary put it this way:
Elon Musk replied to the figures on X with his own take:
People are buying FSD with a car attached, not the other way around
Record Net New Subscriptions
Active FSD subscriptions (including legacy lifetime purchases) now stand at 1.74 million, up 67% from 1.04 million a year ago. That’s roughly 260,000 (or 17.5%) more than Q2, and Tesla says it added more subscribers in Q3 than in any quarter in its history. For comparison, FSD adoption at the end of Q2 was 1.48 million. Tesla has also removed the one-time purchase option in most markets, so subscriptions are doing most of the work now.
Tesla’s Q3 2026 Earnings
The rest of the earnings report was more mixed. Revenue of $28.05 billion came in just under the $28.3 billion analysts expected, and it was roughly flat year over year. Gross profit rose to $5.49 billion from $5.05 billion a year earlier, and gross margin climbed to 19.6% from 18.0%. Tesla pointed to higher ancillary sales, driven mainly by FSD subscriptions, as one of the factors behind its results.
Non-GAAP EPS was $0.48, beating the $0.45 estimate, and adjusted EBITDA came in at $3.90 billion. GAAP net income was $787 million, and free cash flow was $1.53 billion. Capex hit $4.73 billion, while cash and marketable securities rose 9% year over year to $45.45 billion.
FSD Improvements and the Europe Factor
FSD adoption is growing exponentially while the software is still improving. We recently saw a Cybertruck on FSD autonomously clear a path for an ambulance at a red light, turning across three lanes from a full stop and rerouting on its own.
More is coming. Tesla has confirmed navigation improvements and pothole detection are in the works, including routing that learns from your preferred routes. FSD v15 is expected later this year or early next year and will be a major upgrade. It’s set to increase the neural network’s parameters 10x, from about 1 billion to 10 billion.
FSD’s reach is also growing outside North America. In Europe, it now goes by Tesla Assisted Driving, a rename tied to Germany’s conditions for backing an EU-wide approval. Slovakia recently became the ninth European country to approve the software independently. A vote on blanket bloc-wide approval is expected in December, and Tesla needs a qualified majority of at least 15 countries to win it.
If that vote goes Tesla’s way and v15 lands on schedule, Q4’s numbers will show how much higher the attach rate can go from 75%, and whether Europe starts to materially contribute.
