I saw this video elsewhere and the conclusion I came to was - the Tesla was going to pull over into the spot that the UPS driver wanted to back into. Neither had actually taken that spot, both were going into it. The UPS truck had passed the spot which would have had me as a driver thinking I could pull over into it. This is why auto park puts on those annoying turn signals all the time- to communicate it is backing into a spot. Granted, the rear view obstructs the view on the video so we can't see the UPS truck's turn signals but when you can see them I don't see anything blinking to indicate it was backing into a spot.
That said- when ANY vehicle is backing on a roadway it is THAT vehicle's responsibility to make sure backing is safe. The RT should have started backing out of the way not because it was at fault but rather to avoid a collision (which could also be a requirement depending on state law).

I agree with Prescott here. The entire situation is one I have encountered many times before, and is always awkward to navigate. Regardless, I do wish the safety monitor had not intervened to see what the RT would actually have done in that scenario, but it is understandable that they did, as that is their job. It would have also been nice to see the video not be cut, to know exactly what happened following the press of the “stop in lane” button. Did the RT automatically move out of the way? Or did the safety monitor have to do some further intervention in the form of picking a new destination, or otherwise to get the RT to move out of the way? Hopefully we will hear more from Tesla going forward about how they are improving in scenarios like these. Ideally, the RT should have seen the truck getting closer, and immediately attempted to reverse and stop or go around. But the safety monitor reacted very quickly, and we did not get a chance to observe what would happen.
