I can say that I won't by a Chamberlain product in the future (if I can avoid it). This subscription stuff is just icing on the cake and they are cutting off their nose to spite their face.

It could end up being the other way around though. Aside from this issue, they make a good product. It's only if there's a competitive product that offers the equivalent without a subscription that it would be helpful, since you can already buy the Chamberlain and not get a subscription. It's unlikely that a competitor will jump in, knowing that Chamberlain could drop the subscription model.

It shouldn't be losing customers that they worry about, but not gaining them. If it were free, it would give a reason for over a million people with garage doors a reason to consider buying the myQ hardware. The current advantages might not be enough, but they add up. If you can control it with your car, use it for Amazon inside garage delivery, have a way of knowing if your garage door was left open, etc, you might not find any one by itself compelling but together they might be.

The biggest advantage for me would be that the car could send out an open or a close signal explicitly, but for the rare times that it closes an already open door and I have to press a button to reverse it, I'm not spending money on a subscription. Also, is the subscription for the account or per car? I have a two car garage and I wouldn't want to have a separate subscription for each one, but some companies (not sure if it's Chamberlain or not) force me to have a separate account for each phone for controlling the gate camera and visitor access where I live.

No clue why they can't just give us one feature without a subscription fee. (MyQ). Seems like they want to charge for any little thing. This will be an absolutely excellent addition to the car that for me will be a complete flop that I absolutely will not use if it comes with a subscription cost. If they wanted to charge for it, then a 1 time fee at a reasonable amount (which to me would be around $50 or less) I'd probably go for it but for the pricing being mentioned its a no go for me. Guess I'll just continue picking up the garage door opener and doing it the old fashioned way lol
Exactly. The fee is stupid. Plus, does that fee need to be paid per car ? I have a model Y and a model 3. There’s no way in hell I’m paying a fee that high for both

Am I understanding correctly that the SAME functionality is currently available in the MyQ app? That would really undermine charging for having it in the car. I don't use the MyQ app as we have HomeLink on both cars.

At the end it's just to open/close garage right, but Tesla's integrated myQ supports more smart stuff like opening garage when it senses that you're close to the garage door. I have myQ app on my iPhone and previously I have to open/close it manually. After setting up the Homebridge myQ plugin and add myQ to Apple HomeKit, now I can give voice command using phone/watch. Apple HomeLink does allow setting up automation scenes to open garage based on phone's GPS but I still prefer to be in control. I really don't see myself paying more to have just the same setup as what I have right now.

I'll use my garage door opener for now. Boy, these fees start chipping away at the savings from not buying gas. I also expect to see complaints that it's buggy and works sometimes or better for some customers and not for others. I'm a new MY owner and I'm starting to get it.

I tried adding myQ to my MYLR, but it did not detect my gate opener. The myQ phone app works flawlessly o the gate. According to myQ support, Tesla only supports GARAGE door openers, but NOT gates. They said Tesla MIGHT add Gates a later today. Anyone else have success with connecting your myQ/Tesla to a LiftMaster gate opener?

I don't see the point in spending the money. I would buy added hardware if Homekit opened and closed the door.
@Kiwi @tpedwards, I am new here. I just wanted to point out, you can make a Internet/app driven GDO WiFi switch for your opener for $6-7 and be done.
The Sonoff Basic uses eWelink vice Tuya. And supports Alexa and Google Asst if you have at on your phone or in the car/house.
I used the Sonoff Basic RF version and hacked it so I could use a generic 433 MHz remote button after I did this one in the video.
And I have a $19.95 Wyze Ver 2 camera with magnetic base hanging on the underside of my Sear GDO that shows me the status of my door (anytime/anywhere).
I use Alexa and have the Flic 2 buttons all over the house. One button is programmed to open/close the garage door, as I press it once, and pull the front house door closed.
MyQ would be nice, but this requires no fee.

Yea, I was actually thinking that an alternative might be to use the OpenGarage controller ($50) and Home Assistant to do the same thing. This keeps everything local and completely in my control, with no subscriptions. It's a bit more work and it doesn't integrate with Tesla as cleanly, but it should do what I need it to do.

And who knows, maybe at some point in the future Tesla will allow us some API access to do things like this (unlikely).
Sir, have you looked at the app called Remote Tesla? In the beginning it was called Remote S. He now supports predefined shortcuts. And his shortcuts also work with NFC tags.

I don't know, there are a couple of reasons that I might like to have an automatic garage door opener. I keep the old push button remote in the drivers door pocket and it works pretty well. But the signal is not great so I have to be almost in the driveway before it can activate my garage door. Also my garage door opens kinda slow so I always have to wait for it to open fully before I can pull in. It would be great if the door could start opening while I'm a couple of houses away and be completely open when I arrive. It's not much, but it would feel very premium.

Finally, I've been wanting to add this functionality to my home automation system anyway. Sometimes the door doesn't close properly (when the sun hits the sensor just right) and I don't know about it for an extended time. Or maybe I left it open overnight by mistake. My home automation could close it for me, or at least warn me that it's open when it shouldn't be. To have it work from my car is just an additional cherry on top.
I use two primary brands for my smart home stuff. One is a lot of Sonoff stuff. The other is Yolink made by Yosmart.com. They have a category of Smart Garage stuff. Two main methods for triggering the door to open. And they have a GDO sensor. Its pretty simply in operation. You use double side tape to stick it to the door. And when the door is down, the sensor is vertical. When the door is open, the sensor is horizontal. And I can set it in the app to notify me for different messages and intervals to alert me the door is still open.

I am hoping they develop a proximity sensor that can bind to their GDO triggers. Then when I drive up in my Tacoma, it will open the door like my S does now.
The interesting thing about Yolink products is, that though they use a hub like alot of Zigbee or ZWave products do, its not a common protocol. Its LoRa for Long Range. You plug the $20 Yolink hub into your WiFi net, then the devices (hmm, usually about $20 or so each for most) bind to the Yolink hub. But its the distances that sets them apart. Range is reliable at 1,000 feet to 1/4 mile away. And a Yolink camera is near release.

My 26 year old Tacoma sits on the side street about 50 feet from my WiFi signal. I have a Yolink Glass Breakage/Shake sensor inside. I can adjust the "shake". Right now, anyone that bumps the truck alerts me with a SMS message, and an Alexa announcement. No damn alarm system on the truck to scare the neighbors or piss off the children. Just a alert. And they have a separate Speakerhub that can plug in anywhere and verbalize a worded response I gave it to also let me know. Then I can look at a street facing camera or slip out the back of the house and peep around the corner with a LAW.

Tesla is set to integrate MyQ devices into their vehicles. We take a closer look at its features… Read More
Homelink will still work without any payment. I talked to a rep at I believe it was champion who said that the garage door will still go up and down without having to pay. The extra stuff is what you’d be paying for. I sure as heck don’t need it as long as I can still use Home link for free.

The MyQ integration does NOT include control of driveway gates or community gates that are supported by MyQ. I just signed up for the trial, and it will not allow use of any device connected to the 828LM "internet gateway", which I believe would include all driveway or community gates, or older garage openers. Perhaps MyQ is just trying to get people to buy a new garage door opener with WiFi support, but WiFi is not directly supported by ANY gate opener without an add-on like the 828LM. All go through the internet gateway, which is not supported by this integration.

For what it's worth, one reason I was attracted to this Tesla integration is to enable control of more than 3 devices which is otherwise the hard limit of HomeLink devices in Tesla or most any vehicle. It would be nice to be able to have similar access from my Tesla to other MyQ shared houses (like my elderly parents). I do have access to all of them through the MyQ app.
