Why does tesla has it's own navigation files?

Perhaps I don't understand it :D

The graphics in the display are real time downloaded from Google right?
The navigation data is only updated a few times a year.

Result is that the maps (from google) already shows the new road, but the blue navigation line isn't following the road. If I navigate with Google Maps app, it uses the latest information.

Why doesn't use Tesla the live data? Is it a license thing or has it some other reasons?

I believe that it uses stored map data to ensure that the map is available even if you loose the cellular connection. From what I understand, the map image is provided by Google, but routing directions are provided by map quest. I wish they would incorporate data from waze.

Thanks!! I thought something like that could be the case (offline usage). But still the waiting time between releasing versions :(
