I recently searched Tesla’s manuals and online discussions to determine whether scheduled departure charging was still available, since I find the feature extremely useful.
It appears to still exist in both the vehicle’s charging menu and the Tesla app, but the setup is not immediately obvious.
To use it, create a charging schedule with an End by time and leave Start charging disabled. When the vehicle is plugged in, it may briefly draw power to determine the available charging rate. It will then wait and begin charging late enough to reach the charge limit by the scheduled end time.
For example, suppose you set the end time to 6:00 a.m., have 5.7 kW of charging power available, set the charge limit to 60%, and plug in at approximately 55% state of charge. The vehicle should wait until roughly 5:00–5:15 a.m. before beginning to charge, then finish close to 6:00 a.m.
Those times are only estimates. The exact start time will depend on factors such as the actual state of charge, available charging power, battery temperature, and charging losses. The vehicle calculates the required start time automatically.
