Tesla Raises Robotaxi Base Fare, Drastically Increasing the Price of Short Trips

Tesla has raised the base fare for its Robotaxi service in Austin to $3.25, making short autonomous rides more expensive while maintaining a $1 per-mile rate.

Anyone who thought that Tesla would keep such low prices forever (at least in the beginning) is/was delusional. It costs money and time to have people constantly taking up cars and going from one location to another. If you price the rides too low, that means demand will be extremely high for what are often unnecessary trips, and if you price them too high, then you get beaten out by whoever offers the lower price. The real "right" price is somewhere in the middle, high enough that people will still walk when a trip is only 1 to 2 miles but low enough that you can outcompete any other taxi service.

I say keep it ultra low, so everyone rides a RT as production has yet to roll out. If they are available for purchase - owners should set their price.
