Our MX spontaneously rebooted while traveling 70mph on the freeway last year. It was unnerving but we retained basic control of the car. I wonder if we would have lost steering during the reboot with drive by wire.

I have a steer by wire system in my 2015 Infiniti Q50 Hybrid, and I’m sure Tesla would do it similarly. It’s a separate circuit(just like the powertrain), and will operate normally if the other computer is rebooting. The Infiniti does have the backup of if the steer by wire system loses power though a clutch engages and it turns into a normal steering rack.

I have wished Tesla had implemented one of these systems years ago. I’d love to have it in my Model Y.
