I wonder how ‘easy’ it is to produce this on a current model Y line… It’s physically larger, different wheel base. Maybe that’s not a big deal.
Also curious which battery pack it will pack :) in the US. This is certainly not the direction we’ve been hearing about with a shift to more affordable models.
In the mean time I refreshed my 2024 Y with some Rimetrix covers :) .

You're right, while an economic larger SUV is a needed model, we weren't expecting Tesla to go this route before introducing a more compact vehicle based on the Cybercab. Especially since they've been talking about the more affordable version of the Model Y, but failed to mention this at all.

This will definitely cut into Model X sales. The X already didn't sell a lot, mostly due to price, so it'll be interesting to see what happens there. I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla's future is with the Model 3 and Y at the top and cheaper/smaller vehicles underneath them. We're still expecting to see the E41, the cheaper Y, this year, but a true compact vehicle is up in the air. Rumors suggest that Elon wanted to scrap that and go all-in on autonomy, but not sure if there's a lot of credibility there.
