Tesla Introduces New Extended Battery and Drive Unit Warranty

Tesla introduces a new $2,000 Extended Service Agreement for Model 3 and Model Y, extending Battery and Drive Unit coverage by 2 years or 30,000 miles.

This is honestly great news for someone like me. I intend to keep the car for at least a decade, barring any unforeseen issues or accidents. So knowing that when the time comes I can extend my warranty coverage does give me peace of mind. However, it does come to a point where one should ask if it's better to continue to extend the warranty or just pay out for a battery replacement if necessary. Hopefully, battery prices will continue to come down, and it will get to the point where replacing a battery if needed no longer gives the dread and fear that it currently does.

Its kinda a guessing game. If the battery has a failure in those 24 months or 30.000 miles youre "lucky", but if unlucky, you paid 2.000 and battery has a failure in the 25th month or later and you still need to pay for the replacement yourself. But its anyways a nice move of Tesla to give us the option for it. As my warranty is running until 2029 i still have some time to consider the options and see what happens to battery prices.

Very true, this is why I hope battery prices come down a lot, because it basically boils down to a gamble. Personally, I drive a lot (usually more than 15,000 miles a year), so I still see it as worthwhile, but only to a certain extent.
