I find it hard to believe that they haven't accounted for all these issues, especially the reversing issue, but I'm not really surprised. It isn't uncharacteristic of Tesla to release things while still having glaring issues that should have been addressed before release. The really sad part is that people are paying for these repairs out-of-pocket, and I hope Tesla reimburses that expense since it is something completely out of their control.

lol- this is one way to end Fsd updates for hw3 cars. Fsd is dead for hw3’s. Stop wasting any more time on patches/fixes.

Tesla wants everyone on hw5……I’m sure hw4 cars are the next fatality……in the near future.

Hw3 owners waited over a year for this update, seriously !.

It ain’t going to work-upgrade the computers—which is dumb or offer a discount equivalent to what people paid to buy Fsd, towards a new hw5 Tesla.

Stop getting every hw3 owners hopes up with bug fixes for Fsd.

Sorry people -time to let it go.

What Tesla can do with hw3’s-focus on NON FSD updates…..plenty of other updates we need.

Tesla, prepare the upgrade facilities already :)
They should honestly be taking advantage of the dying AP/FSD components and start replacing those that have already been affected with HW4 instead of making customers pay for HW3 replacements.

But that still leaves those that are on HW3 with subscriptions hanging high and dry. They need to resolve this issue regardless, but they could at least start moving in the direction of upgrading the hardware for those that made the full purchase.

thats not economically viable and would take years, creating a backlog. Plus, its another band aid fix. The only solution is a discount equal to the price they spent on FSD way back when, towards a hw5 car.

Tesla has never rolled back an update, the problem with bug fixes is that they reach an effective remedy rate. If you have software where its flooded with bug fixes, it effects efficiency and works way harder thank its threshold level. This results in potential breakdowns in the near future and all the work-a-rounds create more cascading problems.

Hw3 with fsd 14 lite has exceeded its tolerance levels.. Factor in the time dedicated to make this distilled version compatible, all the overtime pay, bug fixes, point releases-it soon becomes a waste of time throwing all that money at a unpredictable outcome.

They could roll it back or you could do it yourself-thats a quick "fix" but I doubt they'd do that.

I say they will try another work-a-round to save money, bad reputation. They are just prolonging the inevitable. There are other updates hw3 could use, other than fsd.

ok I did not get the fsd lite but my friend did in his 2023, Y.

The parking is horrible-we went to Burger king in hurry mode---seemed like regular speed, selected parking spot from the 3 options and its parked in the furthest spot away like almost a block away.

Answer me this: if the car is in SELF DRIVING mode-why does the Nav voice tell YOU where to turn. I'm not driving, so why do I need it to tell me to turn left ?.

If I selected Burger King as my destination-why does the nav voice say "arriving at destination"-why can't it say arriving at Burger King or what ever destination I selected ?

It did not see a large orange barrel blocking the drive way, no UI image enhancements.

There was a message on the screen saying no internet connection when using VOICE CONTROLS ?

Id like to try it out in my car {3} see if there is any difference.......still waiting on free trial.

Thats not legally holding. You can't force people to buy a new car even with a discount as high as the price that was paid for the FSD package. I have paid off my car's credit for about 9 months now and planning to drive it much longer as i have almost no cost of ownership now. I would not be satisfied with a discount for a new car because i do not want a new car. Either offer a full refund for FSD or upgrade my hardware to HW4/5 or whatever is capable. I have not even nearly reached my end of warranty for battery and drive train so i want to drive this car at least for another 4 to 5 years if not longer. I would honestly prefer the upgrade instead of the refund, even if i have to pay a little for that (maybe when you have full FSD package they could offer a cheaper upgrade).

What i also wonder is if it also will be neccessary to swap the infotainment computer. Will HW4/5 even work together with MCU2 (Intel Atom)? MCU-Z came before HW4 so there is currently no car with the combination HW4 + MCU2 out there.

Still some open question, as always we will have to be patient and see. In the meantime, i joined a class-action lawsuit that is currently being prepared in my country. Lets see if this adds some pressure.

I think that a major contributing factor to the failures/overheating are issues with the cars coolant system. If everything is perfect (no low coolant levels, no air in the system, etc.) then v14-lite probably works OK. However, as the article states, if there are preexisting issues with the coolant system, even minor ones, it probably compromises the integrity enough that v14-lite causes problems. I'm guessing the testing vehicles and early adopters had well maintained vehicles without coolant issues. That might have led them to believe that it was safe to release.

I do agree with TESLASUPERFAN in that Tesla has never rolled back an update (as far as I know) but they might update the existing v14-lite solution to more closely monitor temperatures and limit FSD before actual hardware damage happens.

I think you might be right. If there was even the slightest issue with the coolant system prior to this FSD version, there is a strong possibility that this update just pushed that issue over the edge enough to cause hardware failures. I'm sure the recent heatwaves also don't help, but I imagine that would be less of a factor on its own. It isn't unheard of or even completely uncommon for PC CPUs or other similar hardware to reach temperatures that high, but in most of those cases the components will often throttle significantly in order to prevent damage. I wouldn't be surprised if this also is a case of those hardware thermal limits not being accounted for and allowing components to essentially cook themselves.

As always, I guess we will have to wait and see if we ever find out the true cause or how Tesla intends to resolve the issue and those that were already affected.

class actions tend to get rectified quickly-but Id be curious as to the actual payout structure or the remedy. Swapping out a cpu while leaving other components intact might open up new problems, this is uncharted territory.

It's probably me, but I'm tired of working the puzzle. Better/worse. What version of software/hardware? It works well for me/not for me. It's become exhausting. When I purchased my car in late 2021, I figured it was a brainless experience. That is, occasionally we'll get new software and new nav, cool features, yada yada yada. There is way too much thought involved in owning a Tesla, despite virtually no maintenance. That part is nice. That doesn't even begin to get into the hoops people jump through, futzing around with speed profiles. You should be able to turn on FSD and go. I'll keep driving this until I need a new car. After that, I'll have to window shop.

Can't say I blame you. I guess it's just the reality of living with a car that receives constant updates and hardware changes along with keeping up with all aspects of the company itself and the things you see on websites that report on it. I wasn't too different not long ago, but what I came to realize, or the mindset change I had, was "Would I be okay with my car today/tomorrow if Tesla suddenly disappeared or my car suddenly stopped receiving updates altogether?" The answer that I ended up with was, yes, I'd be okay if those things were to happen. Am I saying it is ideal or that I wouldn't want it to be different? No, but as long as my car did everything it does today and can still get me from A to B, I am perfectly fine.

hmmm I agree and disagree-Tesla boasts "the car that gets better with time" and for the most part that is has been true-depending on your perspective. I got hooked on EV's but it was Tesla that caught my attention. All those little things and constant enhancements especially the Xmas updates were always appreciated. Those extras came with all the bug fixes, things taken away, more new problems with each update.

If U just wanted an EV then Tesla is not the car for you-plenty of other EV's with WAY LESS issues. If you are fed up with the ups & downs with tesla and things constantly getting worse/better/fsd issues etc, etc then ya I agree: get another EV without all the frills but is totally reliable.

If I drove another EV for a few months, I personally would miss Tesla-lets face it all those extra things in the toybox, grok, U.I, custom lock chimes, etc are used for a week or two then rarely played with again. Sure they were cool when they first appeared and nice to show off to friends but do we really need all that stuff. The novelty effect wears off pretty fast with fun updates.

Those things I'd miss but other than that...........yup, another EV would be ok without all the drama.

My main features (not in any order):
  • Little maintenance
  • Not going to a gas station
  • Autopark
  • FSD on highways (don't use it a lot in the city)
  • Camera use (sentry, dashcam)
  • Charger network
For me, the rest are bells and whistles. I've probably opened the Toybox 5x in 5 years. I never use the browser, watch Netflix, etc. I've done no research, but other manufacturers might already handle the above, or will soon. I've said in this forum that I probably won't get another Tesla. The exception would be in 5 years or so, if they've conquered the tech to the point there are no more conversations about HW upgrades and FSD has been perfected to the degree possible.

By then (5 years) all cars will have similar tech and lots of self driving cars to choose from. New one this week called WAVY-saw one in a Mach E.

Tesla started it all back when but in 5 years Tesla will just be another option. ……if they even are still producing cars.
