Look forward to seeing what this car turns out to be even though I can't afford any part of it including the insurance or registration.

I almost "weaseled" my way into a highland refresh of my M3 about a year ago (as they got cheaper) as it would be an infotainment + hw4 upgrade for me (alongside other nice things like LED Bar, improved range and rear display), but i refused because of uncertainty if this will be sufficient again (because they announced hw5 already)

Yeah, I think you made the smart choice. I think you should at least wait until hardware 4.5 at worst and if you can wait long enough, hardware 5 will be the best long term. It simply isn’t a smart move to buy right now if what you care about most is FSD, but leasing could be smart since there’s no obligation to keep the car.
