I think other auto manufacturers also do something similar, right? It's my understanding that you can't purchase certain Ferrari's unless you satisfy certain parameters.

Yes, Ferrari does that according to what I have seen in articles. That said, Tesla is NOT doing it now. Probably got a bunch of cancellations when people thought they couldn't flip the truck for $$. I have a CT reservation but at this point I just can't get one . Still, I'm not gonna get talked into flipping it!
