Oooo and almost nothing for legacy model owners. Well, the update apparently tells us how bad our battery is getting. I guess that's something.

It’s kinda odd they didn’t add this to legacy models. Nothing really new here in the way of functionality or features it didn’t already have. It’s more of a turn off convenience.

You are correct, it shouldn't be difficult to add some of these changes. There is, however, effort in testing these changes; ever update made to older models requires validation against those older models.

True, but it’s not like the don’t do any testing on these cars, we got the audio update which had to be more complex to test than this.
