While I like the initiative from Tesla, I'm doubting the need. Like @TESLASUPERFAN I don't think I've ever heard of an actual incident that would cause someone to flee a supercharging session. There might possibly be some circumstance at some point in the future where this feature might help, but that's a whole lot of speculation. I guess it's better safe than sorry and as long as this feature doesn't cause other problems it's a win for safety.

We will never watch the news and hear the words “I surely would have been harmed if I had not hit the quick release tab-it saved my life” from a human. I’m sure AI will generate a fake clip though

Here are some instances. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but there are certainly situations where a feature like this would have been helpful. Keep in mind that it doesn't have to involve someone literally shooting at your car. It could be something like an EV charger next to you, the charger itself, a nearby building, or other things such as a tree catching fire. It might even be a car‑jacking attempt or something similar. The point is that this is one of those features you hope you never need, but if you ever do need it, you'll be glad it exists. The majority of people will likely never need to use it, and that is a good thing, but we shouldn't say that it isn't needed or that it is a useless feature.

Same conversation was discussed 15 years ago about the spare tire-never going to be used so let’s remove it.

Idiots will surely try this and it will cost them severely.

It’s more of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, not paying attention to your surroundings, being more vigilant, etc -those are All FREE and saves lives more than any feature.

Social media creates a real fear-someone creates a so called solution and that someone cashes in. All of the above may happen less that a tiny fraction of a percent.

No it’s not like insurance either nor is it piece of mind or a guarantee u will escape.

The last thing we need is people thinking supercharging is high risk bullet flying scenario but have no fear insta-eject is here.

More people for DECADES have been car jacked, shot at, robbed, assaulted every single day while pumping GAS……yet not one single “quick escape” feature for all those 100 million cars.

Have u ever ask why not ?…….the average Joe couldn’t afford it and it’s not a guarantee you will be safe. Bullet proof glass is cheaper then Teslas “solution”.

You’re arguing against a position I never made. I never said emergencies at chargers are common, that this feature guarantees anyone’s safety, or that Superchargers are uniquely dangerous.

The point is much simpler: an ICE vehicle generally isn’t immobilized while fueling, and gas pumps already use breakaway couplings specifically so the hose can separate if someone drives off. A Tesla normally cannot shift out of Park while plugged in. This feature gives the driver a last-resort way to override that restriction and leave if there is an immediate danger.

Whether that situation happens once in a million charging sessions doesn’t change the purpose of the feature. And comparing it to spare tires, insurance, paying attention to your surroundings, or whatever other tangent doesn’t actually address that point.

If you disagree with that, address that argument rather than repeatedly replacing it with a different one.

It’s just a fear created to earn cash, the comparison is valid. By your logic everyone should get struck by lightning insurance for their cars. Bullet proof glass is far safer then quick release-so continuing down the cash grab hole-should all teslas get bullet proof glass moving forward or maybe Tesla should start arming their cars with guns that stun people.

It does nothing to guarantee your safety-will never be used- it’s ridiculously expensive and you and a lot of others all fall this media fear created feature.

So ridiculous the time and effort they spend on this stuff when Fsd continues to have deadly flaws.

And being observant and choosing the location, time, etc far outweighs ANY FEATURE 365 days a year, for free and continues to saves lives for thousands of years.

Thank God This WASTEFULL feature is NOT valid in Canada…….please continue to NOT include ANY fear created media crap for Canada. It will always be a hard pass.

We will opt for common sense, being vigilant, observe our surroundings, location, time which has and continues to save lives for FREE since the invention of the automobile.

You’re still not addressing the actual point. Now we’ve gone from bulletproof glass, insurance, FSD, and stun guns to “fear-created media crap,” and apparently Canada being above needing the feature.

Tesla hasn't said Canada doesn't need it. They said it applies to U.S. Superchargers “only for now.”

And the “$25,000” argument is being misrepresented too. Tesla said Supercharger electrical/civil damage can cost up to $25,000. They have not said someone legitimately using Emergency Drive Away gets handed a $25,000 bill. What Tesla actually said is that deliberate misuse can bring additional penalties. They haven't even established publicly who is liable for what when the feature is legitimately used in an emergency.

None of that changes the original point: an ICE vehicle can normally drive away while fueling, and fuel pumps already have breakaway devices for drive‑offs. A Tesla normally cannot move while connected. This feature gives the driver an emergency override.

“Pay attention to your surroundings” isn't a rebuttal to that. You can be perfectly vigilant and still have an emergency develop after you've plugged in.

Location/time u charge/time it takes u to charge and being observant all is more reliable than the eject button.

Who do u think pays for the damage caused by gas station drive offs……ITS CONSUMERS, gas increases.

The point-I’m sure the guy was NOT TRAPPED, he was not being vigilant. This was an isolated incident, it did not need to be advertised as a flaw on the news, creating a unnecessary fear with a band aid feature so called solution for a non existent problem that rarely occurs.

Far bigger REAL PROBLEMS Tesla should be focused on. Example Halloween mode.

So u Americans all can now relax, u r completely safe, no need to worry about charging overnight in crime supercharging areas, no need to pay attention, forget being vigilant, forget about the collateral costs, making service appointments, car rental or court time……all thanks to escape mode. It might require you to test this at yr own expense though, make sure it actually ejects.

Oh and it does not work in other countries, non tesla superchargers (they did think of a new exclusive revenue stream), level 2 stations, destination charging stations, it might not work every single time and no guarantees what-so-ever but ya feel “free” to try it out im sure it’s perfectly safe.
