Bets on HW5?

Anyone want to place bets on HW5 being delayed further or having its cost increase significantly due to recent news of memory price increases?

It seems NVIDIA and AMD will likely be increasing the prices of their own products due to this memory price hike, and I'm guessing the hardware needed for HW5/AI5 is no different in this regard. This will likely mean that it will either be delayed further, or that the cost to Tesla will increase, which as a consumer probably means a more expensive car unless Tesla is willing to "absorb" that cost in the short term.

Well, I mean, it is a Tesla thing so yeah it was already gonna be late.
Which is fine- AI4 better be good enough for FSD unsupervised!

i always thought HW/AI 5 was going to be late because, like @PrescottAZRichard said, it is a tesla thing. but as for it being more expensive, i am interested to see how that will play out because price increases will definitively not help sales.

I get what you guys are saying about the delay, but I meant more along the lines of further delay. As it stands, they already delayed it once into late 2026 to early 2027, and I'm guessing further delays if the cost is going to increase so drastically due to memory pricing. Or, as an alternative, they may even redesign and include less memory to lower the cost.

Depends on how far ahead Tesla secures RAM, it's going up now but at the end of the year who knows where it will be? It DOES seem to me that Tesla (and Apple as another example) wants the system to be as lean as possible.

That's a good point! However, even if they ordered early, I'm guessing it would be hard for them to gauge exactly how large of an order to place. And that still leaves the question, if they did source RAM while prices were low, how will it impact prices going into the future on the consumer end? Or will there be issues and new constraints because of this cost increase.

i'll take that bet-that true UFSD for mass deployment will require HW5 and wont appear in owned customer vehicles purchased until 2027.
