i have to replace the 12v battery on my M3 and as i was scheduling the appointment and approving the estimate, i noticed that the cleaning of the front cameras was in fact in the estimate but i was not being charged for it. does anyone know why they are doing this free, or even why it’s in here when i never added it on? i mean don't get me wrong i will take it but i’m wondering why.IMG_1474.jpeg

Tesla has apparently implemented a new service that addresses a cleaning issue with their front-facing camera and other cameras. This issue can cause problems with features like Full Self-Driving (FSD), automatic wipers, and autopilot. The cleaning process takes about 10 to 15 minutes and is relatively easy. I personally did it in my driveway using a Philips head screwdriver. Tesla likely implements this service because it can significantly improve the aforementioned features and often reduces the number of warnings you receive for not cleaning the front-facing camera. The issue arises from a hazing film that can develop in front of the camera, causing visibility problems.

what’s funny is i thought about doing it to improve FSD, especially after i saw the video from DirtyTesla explaining the process, but i felt like for how much it was, i wasn’t ready to pay for it. so the fact that they are doing it free is great 👍🏽

Oh yeah, the first one is free. Like any drug dealer :)
Seriously though- whatever is causing the fogging up should be gone after the first cleaning. I scheduled one for my Y next month via their ranger service. That is- the tech comes to my house and does it. If all goes well I'll have traded that car in this week on a brand new S because life is too short. Fingers crossed!

Honestly, I'd highly recommend doing it yourself. From what I can tell, they recommend you have it done at least once a year. But being that the cameras are so vital for so many aspects of the car, I would not mind doing it myself every 3 months or so. Like I said, it took me about 30 minutes the first time, mostly because I was being extra cautious and reading the Tesla manual. But I'm sure I can do it in about 15 minutes now.

Watch the tech do it, take a video if they don't mind. I'm sure there are some 'what you wanna watch out for is....' moments. Once a year sounds smart.

That’s the plan. I’ll know by Wednesday how it goes. There’s a Blue LR with black/white interior at Deer Valley that I am looking at. If it is gone before I get my deposit I’ll go white and black/white. No harm in waiting, Tesla likes to update things Willy nilly :)

Whelp. It worked. Sadly when I try to upload a pic I get a ‘file is too large’ error. But I have a witness or two. I am having ‘I am not worthy’ syndrome. I kinda miss everything on one screen right now but that’ll pass. The LR is a sweet car, almost got a red Plaid but the delivery lady straightened that out and I got my blue / white & black LR S. Smooth as silk.

Nice! Congrats on the purchase! I hope one day I can get a Model S or X myself. Would love to have either of those models in my driveway.

Oh, and as a tip, if you get that error, you can use something like Imgur to upload the photo and then just share the media link (“Media” option on the top row of the editing menu here on the forum).
