Discuss: Tesla's New 'Preferred Routes' Doesn't Require the Summer Update

I've had the 2026.26 map update for a few days now, and I have yet to get the "Your route" or preferred route option popping up on my navigation screen. Then again, I do live in a large city with a ton of traffic, so maybe they are weighing traffic patterns heavier than my specific preferred route. On that note, I have noticed speed limit signs near me being more accurate as well as a few more POIs that wouldn't show up before. There are also a few newer roads that now display properly along my routes, as well as the turn directions being more accurate as to which lane to be in. Whether FSD correctly uses that information is a different story, though.

I'm not sure if it's the map update or the fsd update (14.3.8) but the car now takes me on the most obscure routes to destinations that I have taken many times before. I let it go a couple of times just to see how it would get me to my destination (which it always did) but was taken on back roads and country lanes when highways were my normal route. This is a highly annoying change that requires constantly getting out of fsd to get past an unusual turn. This takes all of the joy out of fsd. I hope it gets fixed soon.

That is odd. Once you drive a route (starting on FSD) and make changes it should remember them. I have a route where I took over to go straight and then turn right (instead of turning at a traffic light) which was NOT a suggested route, and now the nav remembers it. I'm on 14.3.8 as well.

Keep in mind those route choices only stick when you are going from the same start point to the same destination, so coming home from the west (for example) from a different start point won't automatically follow some of your choices from a different one.

I've actually noticed that this happens to me when the car has poor cellular reception. There isn't really a way to fix it other than using a mobile hotspot. I guess if it can't get good updated information via the internet then it starts taking weird routes that you normally don't take. I've also learned to just have the map zoomed out where it shows all the alternate routes constantly and press on whichever route I want to take.

I wish it took time-of-day into account. I have a couple of routes home and choosing the best one depends on the day and time. One route goes through a school zone, which I like to avoid during the week in the afternoons. Another route passes by a church with is busy on Sunday mornings.

I have two more observations about routing. First, I no longer get routing options as I'm driving. The selected route is locked in. Second, there is no effort to move me around bad delays. I was stuck in a traffic jam for 15 minutes, and had to manually do a u-turn and find another way to where I was going. The original route was lit up in red, but the route stayed the same.
