I really hope that the battery pack isn't too nerfed in this car. As much as I like the glass roof, I wouldn't miss it much :) . I'm in a pretty mild part of AZ but going to the Phoenix area about once a month makes me wonder how anyone lives down there without a shade. I've got the electric retractable one, $450 but really worth it. No sagging, once installed it is the best of both worlds (so far). The voice activation comes on sometimes during blues songs, which is more interesting than annoying.
Back to the potential new car- I am clueless as to how well this will do, but at least it's not a tiny box with wheels.

This is actually great for people looking to get a great EV with a proven track record (based off the normal Model Y). I imagine that one of the biggest cost savings will indeed be the battery, but to what extent is anyone's guess. It would be fantastic if they can keep it around the 220 to 250-mile range, but it would be great if it can go even slightly above that along with the other cost-cutting measures.

As a small side note, I think this will also be great for the used market (once they actually go on the used market), but also for people that tend to keep their cars longer. My thought is that since these are coming in at a lower starting price, they will depreciate much less than the other models in the lineup (I could be entirely wrong here). And as such may influence the other models to depreciate less, due to a higher perceived value for more features and range on the used market.

They might be able to reduce the battery size without affecting range due to the reduce weight of the car. Taking out the leather, heated, cooled seats, no rear screen, no front lightbar, simple 3rd stoplight, no towing capacity, single motor, no glass roof, etc. All of these things cost weight as well as money and the more weight you save the more range you get.
