At least they answered that a Hardware Upgrade is still "planned" by Tesla for HW3 Owners, but still no time frame for it. It seems like V14 lite is coming late June or July so the hardware retrofit is for sure starting in 2027 earliest i guess :D Better than nothing! I hope its not taking too long for V14 lite to get approved in the EU tho...

From my understanding, they want to set up the supply chain and logistics part of the retrofits before officially starting to upgrade HW3 cars, especially because the car will need to be partially disassembled to do the upgrade. I think they learned their lesson with previous incidents with the Cybertruck, where they were and still are running into issues with getting enough parts to do warranty repairs. It would really suck to start the process of upgrading HW3 cars and then have it take them several years to do because of hardware or component shortages. Keep in mind, this will likely also be a multi-day process for each car, and that means they would also need loaner vehicles for anyone getting the upgrade. The whole thing is a massive undertaking, but at least they are doing something rather than nothing. I'm honestly glad for HW3 owners, and it does restore some confidence in their trustworthiness.

Correct, this is a massive and heavy process for Tesla, so i am glad to see that there is something moving in this regard! Even a multi-day process? Wow thats massive work they have to do - as far as i know, there are about 4 million HW3 Vehicles around worldwide :D I would also be just happy if V14 Lite will be the last FSD Version for my car, it will never be unsupervised sure, but by the time unsupervised FSD is approved in the EU, my vehicle will be much older anyways, as its already 5 years old.

Yes, it would be a multi-day process because they have to change out the cameras, wiring, and the FSD computer in the cars, which is behind the dashboard. This requires taking large portions of the car out just to reach them. I'm assuming this is why they are working on FSD v14 lite for HW3 in the first place, because they know this process is going to take a long time, so they are releasing that update as a "holdover" while HW3 owners wait for their turn for an upgrade.

I'm curious how they are going to handle the process, but it is without a doubt going to be a massive undertaking. I am assuming it is probably going to be some sort of queue process where you will receive a notification or message when it's your turn for the upgrade. But they did mention that they are setting up "hubs" to do the upgrades at certain service centers.

I wonder what they consider as "major cities" for setting up those hubs. Does it have to be cities with 100.000+ citizens? Then i would have to drive for about 2 hours in every direction to reach the nearest major city at my destination. Also i would have to drive there twice because its a multi-day process. I'm also curious how all of this will play out :D

To be fair, I think it would be a worthwhile 2-hour trip if you paid $8,000 for the feature to get the upgrade, especially since you'll likely get a loaner.
