Not going to lie, I am thoroughly impressed by just how far Tesla is willing to go to save $30 on a rain sensor. Nonetheless, this is still pretty impressive that they can do this at all, and I truly hope that it does in fact fix the dry wipe issue. The times I see dry wipes the most are often when I am stopped at an intersection and something like a bus, truck, or other large vehicle crosses in front of me, especially at stop sign intersections or unprotected lefts with a stop sign.

Show me-seeing it in action is believing cause it’s been what like 5 or more years we have been asking for this fix.

SO, I think I have realized something worth repeating here. IF your autowipers just go full speed even when not needed - you might need the front camera area cleaned. My GF’s 2024 3 LR does this on 14.3.8 and previous builds, where as my 2026 S LR doesn’t. I‘m sure during one of my tire rotations they did the windshield cleaning for me, and besides - I already had the windshield replaced!

Yes, very much so! My autowiper behavior definitely improved a lot once I got the front camera area cleaned. However, there are still occasions where if I am at a stop sign on a side street coming onto a main road and anything big like an SUV, pickup truck, or other large vehicle passes in front of me, I will get at least 1 phantom dry wipe.

Hence, the thinking behind the new patent….have to see it in action. It never ceases to amaze me how other manufacturers solved this while Tesla engineers struggle.
