Wow, the timing on this could not have been coincidental for me. Over the span of the last month I’ve had my gen 2 mobile connector randomly stop working for me. The light would flash 6 times which means a pilot signal malfunction (basically the charger can’t talk to the car and vice versa). I even had a tesla service appointment to have them look into the issue.

The weird thing is that this issue popped up out of nowhere after the mobile connector has been working perfectly fine on the exact same setup for a bit over 2 years. It would also occur even when the car wasn’t charging and was asleep, which immediately eliminated it being an issue with my charging setup.

Regardless, I’m still taking my connector to the Tesla service to have them take a look at it. But hopefully this fixes the root cause of the issue.

So u have to wait for the update notification-plug into an outlet with yr mobile charger-that triggers the download installation …….time is like 5 - 10 minutes, then disconnect ?………for gen 2 connectors ?.

I got my Gen 2 mobile connector along with my 2024 Model 3 LR AWD. The Gen 3 didn't come out until early 2025.

Yes, basically exactly that. I think it would be easier to just keep the car plugged in with the mobile connector rather than wait until you get that notification, though.

most people never use their mobile chargers-supercharge or home charger (level 2) or destination chargers, not to mention all the apartment dwellers. Leaving in the mobile charger is NOT an option........especially at the trickle charge rate 1/kw/hr.

Quick update: I don't know if I ever got the mobile connector update, and I wasn't about to sit in my car for hours or days to confirm whether or not I did get it. However, I did end up taking my mobile connector to the service center with me, and after a few minutes of them testing it, they came back and handed me a brand new Gen 3 mobile connector in lieu of my Gen 2 mobile connector. I'm hoping this will fix the issue I was having; otherwise, I'll have to diagnose the issue further as potentially being an issue with my charging setup.

I exclusively use my mobile charger as a level 2 home charger. I even purchased the Nema 10-30 adapter for it so I can get 24A at 240V. Apartment dwellers may not use their mobile chargers, but that doesn't automatically mean that not everyone uses them. I personally know a few people that own Teslas and did not want to purchase the dedicated wall connector because it was significantly more expensive for the unit itself and the added electrical work that would be needed to have it installed.
