It truly is astonishing how little accountability people will take on their part when they know that they are the ones that messed up and try to find any excuse to weasel their way out of the consequences. Truly a tragedy this even happened. Hopefully the person who caused it will be put behind bars for a long time.

On a side note, this begs the question of just how much Tesla and FSD should allow human input. I think allowing takeovers using the steering wheel, brake, button, etc. is fine, but I think pressing the accelerator should not have such an aggressive input if FSD is active. But then again, you run into issues with needing the accelerator input in the case of an emergency. This is just one of those cases of a double-edged sword, where by eliminating one problem, you introduce a whole set of new problems.

I don't think there is an easy solution to this, and I guess this is just the reality we will be living in, where bad actors will try to blame FSD or any autonomous software for their own mistakes.

No doubt the programming has to (at this point) figure the driver knows best.. If you’re gonna hit the accelerator then you are taking over, so the car has to assume you’re doing it for a valid reason. Just like hitting the brake pedal or turning the wheel.
Besides, I’m sure someone will think up a reason for going 70 in a 25 and use that as an excuse to allow it. What if someone is chasing me? What if… blah blah blah

Very true. I guess that an eventual solution could be to use FSD's smarts to identify things like buildings and other obstructions before allowing full accelerator input, but then again, by the time FSD is that smart, we may not even be allowed any sort of input at all until it is disabled.
