wow. Tesla AI team has given me a huge surprise. i did not think we would see V14 Lite this month (or really anytime soon). i am excited to try this update, and i haven’t been excited for a software update in a long time. i guess it’s back to sitting in the garage waiting for the update to install.

This is excellent news today! I wonder if in the future they will go to these lengths for HW4 when that also becomes outdated and incapable of running larger models. I'm assuming that if they keep their word about some form of unsupervised capability in HW4, they would not, but at this point, I imagine that we will learn more as time goes on and HW5 is eventually released.

That said, I'm excited for HW3 owners, as it seems this is a great first step in improving their experience. My question for now would still be how long it takes to expand to other countries and how many more updates they will receive aside from this initial update. I assume that there will be updates to smooth things out and potentially improve reaction times, but I imagine that the hardware limitations will still limit how much more it can actually improve beyond this on older hardware.

I assume that it's because there are so few S/X cars that they want to push it to the 3/Y models first to get more testing data. At least that's my hope, and that it's just not going to be released for us S/X owners.

Currently i'm seeing no reason this wouldn't arrive on S/X. I saw test Videos from people with Atom + HW3 Configs that got V14 lite so even Legacy S/X should meet those requirements (and as far as i know, the Upgrade from HW2.5 to HW3 is available?)

I don't think it is due to a hardware limitation and instead has more to do with the different size and shape of the vehicles themselves. This puts the cameras in slightly different positions and gives different view points, which I would imagine require additional validation and testing.

It also has to do with the different size & shape of the screen. The legacy S/X vehicles have a portrait screen and the 3/Y vehicles have a landscape screen. I think that keeps us (S/X) owners from getting some of the more "simple" updates, such as the LARGE TEXT option.

You could have a point with that. Although i wonder, if camera position needs to be this precise and needs software adjustments for the different models, wouldn't different tire size or suspension changes which are changing the height of the vehicle also affect the FSD Cameras? Or is it ok when the whole array shifts up or down and only the relative position to each camera matters?

It likely has a lot to do with different aspects of the vehicles outside just the cameras and their positions. That said, I still think it is mostly a case of them just needing a bit of extra time to validate and test the software on those vehicles before releasing it more widely. From the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like they are going to be releasing a lot of further updates outside this initial v14 Lite release. But I imagine that if there are issues with particular models or something that they will address them with updates.
